Five major component companies invest over 2 billion yuan to establish factories in Thailand, seizing the Tesla humanoid supply chain

This batch of projects, worth over 10 billion Thai baht, includes multiple key components of humanoid robots.

At the end of February, the Board of Investment of Thailand (BOI) announced that it had approved the applications of five Chinese robot core component companies to build Thailand's first humanoid robot component production base. The project's initial investment exceeded 12 billion Thai baht (approximately 2.62 billion yuan), and it will be located in the Chumphon, Phraya, and Rayong provinces in Thailand.

This batch of projects, worth over 10 billion Thai baht, includes multiple key components of humanoid robots. Specifically, Xinjian Transmission and Beite Technology plan to invest in the production of planetary roller screws, robot ball screws, etc., with a total investment scale of approximately 6.7 billion Thai baht; Sanhua Intelligent Control and Topu Group plan to invest in the construction of robot joint actuators, with an investment scale of approximately 2.7 billion Thai baht; Xusheng Group focuses on lightweight robot body, joints, bones and other shell components, with a total investment of 2.7 billion Thai baht.

According to the Secretary General of BOI, the humanoid core component base of the above-mentioned enterprises is the first to be produced outside of China, with core customers directly targeting Tesla. With a forward-looking layout in the screw field, Xinjian Transmission will enter the Tesla Optimus generation supply chain in 2022. Sanhua Intelligent Control provides Tesla with humanoid joint assemblies, core self-developed lightweight, small-volume, high-precision electromechanical actuators, and continuous iteration.

Topu Group became a supplier of Tesla robots in 2023, providing linear joints, rotary joints, and dexterous hand motors. The Thai factory will design components with an annual production capacity of 1 million units (sets). Xusheng Group entered the Tesla automotive supply chain in 2013, and its largest customer for many years has been Tesla. In the field of humanoid robots, Xusheng Group mainly provides aluminum magnesium alloy components and humanoid structural parts manufacturing.

The Secretary General of BOI also revealed that the construction of the Thai base will provide industrial support for the robot research and development of technology giants such as Apple, Samsung, and Huawei. After production, approximately 45 billion baht worth of materials and components will be purchased annually.

At present, Thailand aims to become the "Southeast Asian Robot Industry Center" and has created a national strategic location for the "Eastern Economic Corridor", providing dividend policies such as tax exemption for up to 15 years of operation, import tax exemption for machinery and materials, and foreign employee quotas. It has attracted investment and landings from many Chinese robot industry chain enterprises such as Sanhua Intelligent Control, Topu Group, Zhaowei Electromechanical, Zhejiang Rongtai, Ningde Times, Anpei Long, and Jingduan Technology.

Many of these companies have stated that they are investing in building production bases in Thailand to expand their production capacity, in order to prepare for the production orders for North American customers in 2026-27.

In addition to the core components, complete machine ODM and other robot industry chains are going global, and the trend of "Made in China, Going Global" for humanoid robots has gradually become popular. Humanoid companies such as Unitree Technology, Zhiyuan Robotics, Magic Atom, and Xingdong Era have stated that a large amount of revenue contribution has come from overseas. Unitree Technology has revealed that overseas revenue has accounted for over 50% in the past few years, and Zhiyuan Robotics plans to exceed 30% of overseas revenue contribution by 2026.

In the future, component companies may achieve more indirect overseas feats with the domestic leading enterprise "Global Purchase", and "capacity export", such as building factories in Thailand, which is also expected to provide new supply chain solutions in the international environment of global trade barriers and intensified technological competition between China and the United States.
